Find Resources For At-Home Seniors

Watching a beloved parent or friend begin to decline can be very worrisome. However, there are many resources available today to help you both.

  • Check with your area Office on Aging and local senior centers to see what resources may be available.
  • Research whether there are dependable and trustworthy individuals you could hire to routinely check in, or offer simple yardwork or do household chores, such as light housekeeping, laundry or cooking. Care.com and Angie’s List are two such resources that can help you locate someone.
  • If you’re the senior’s responsible party, discuss your concerns with their health care provider and follow their recommendations.
  • If the senior’s neighborhood has a private Facebook page, you may be able to request recommendations for senior care and related services and activities.

Before you hire anyone, make sure to ask for references and contact them! Also, ask if they would feel comfortable with video cameras recording them while in your senior’s home. There are many such systems you can purchase online, at big box or hardware stores that are less than $200.

If a senior living option may be needed, reach out to a CHI Living Communities campus to see how we may be able to assist your loved one. Our marketing director can help you objectively size up the situation and offer you guidance.
