Rowan and Joe moved to St. Leonard just two years ago. Ever since, they have been highly visible on campus, participating in events and volunteering for whatever they could. Now that they have had time to settle in, they have found their niche(s).
Rowan and Joe came to this campus after researching area retirement communities for Rowan’s mother. She declined to move but Rowan says, “during these excursions undertaken on Mom’s behalf, both Joe and I found it hard to ignore that a CCRC retirement community would be a great fit for us. They chose St. Leonard for several reasons. Rowan continues, “we were drawn to the culture of and devotion to a way of human and divine relating based on the revelatory experiences of St. Francis of Assisi; access to the natural areas on the campus and in the community; the comfortable fit with our budget; and it was close to my mother.”
They chose a cottage and have enjoyed it. Joe says, “Our cottage is a perfect fit for Rowan and me. It is large enough for us to create new and shared memories but also allows each of us to expand our creative energies.” Rowan adds, “and we even have enough room to dance!”
The experience at St. Leonard has also been very positive. Rowan indicates that it has been “so far, so good.” They enjoy the interaction and residents and staff by attending programs and volunteering.
As native Ohioans, Rowan and Joe are content to remain in Ohio. Joe retired from 37 years of law practice. What should we know about Rowan? As she puts it, “I love baseball as well as Botticelli, poetry with a side of potatoes AND my guest list for an imaginary dinner party would definitely include Roberto Clemente and Julia Child.”
